This was a fantastic and marvellous time! I followed an internship for my study Marketing Management at HBO Nederland (www.hbonederland.com) located in Groningen. Khaya Student Placements arranged me the most beautiful internship I could imagine. I was working together with the Khaya staff. This internship gave me the opportunity to visit a variety of companies and have a look behind their scenes. Due to this I was getting a lot of understanding how about the way of doing business in South Africa. Because I went to many companies in South Africa I could make a list which companies and branches are interesting me as an assignment for my bachelor teases. The internship gave me another perspective about what I want to do in the future. I wanted to be a pilot! Before all this I needed to do lots of tests which I accomplished. The reason I accomplished all the tests is the knowledge I gained at school. After one year of theory in England I am staying at the moment in America to gain practical experience. This is a dream come true! So if you want to see more of the world and want to have a amazing time in a fantastic country such as South Africa, I recommend Khaya to all of you!

I will never forget the day I saw tears run down the cheeks of a HIV positive five year old child after I had surprised him with a gift. He said to me that this gift was the first one he had ever received in his whole life. Thereafter he gave me the biggest hug any human being could ever ask for, this sent chills down my spine.

I’m Rosanne a 22 year old woman and currently volunteering at a Home-based Child Care Centre, in the township of Zwide, Port Elizabeth where children live with HIV and AIDS.
Most of the children at the centre speak “Xhosa” while others communicate in English. Despite this language barrier we are still able to understand each other with the help of body language. My duties at the centre include spending quality time with children, assisting them with homework, playing games with the younger children, feeding and bathing them. Once a month we visit the district of Zwide to distribute food packets to families who are also infected with HIV Aids. Last Easter we distributed shoeboxes with little presents for the children in Zwide.

Khaya helped me to help these children at the Child Care Centre. I have always wanted to visit South Africa with its wonderful climate, variety of cultures, unspoiled nature as well as the big five. So when I discovered Khaya on the internet, I knew this was my chance to experience just that.

Compared with the prices of other organizations, Khaya is relatively cheap. As a bonus they organize fun activities such as weekends away where I can mix and mingle with other volunteers. Not only was Khaya helpful in finding a volunteer opportunity for me but they also made sure that I had fun.

I enjoy volunteer work in South Africa. The people here are very grateful and they appreciate what I do. The love I receive from these children I work with who don’t have families of their own is the one thing that is priceless! I appreciate Khaya student placements who have given me the opportunity to give to others.

I am an animal lover and for a long time my dream was to do something worthwhile for others. What better way to have done it than with Khaya in South Africa. I was able to experience the BIG 5 and many other wild animals for myself which I would not easily find back home.

My friends who worked with Khaya before told me about their great experience with Khaya in South Africa. I was so exited about their experience that I wanted to experience it for myself.

When I finally came to South Africa Khaya organized to pick me up at the airport, provided me with accommodation, car rentals, and the best thing they organized was adventurous outings.

I was convinced that now my dream was going to become a reality. Khaya gave me the opportunity to be of help to others in South Africa as well as for me to be at one with nature and the animals. One of the volunteer projects I participated in was the Cheetah Volunteer Project.

My responsibilities as a volunteer was to hand feed the cheetahs help maintain the area they lived in and help them go hunting in the wild. It was amazing to see how powerful and fast this wild cat was.

One of the most important lessons I learnt after volunteering for the Cheetah Project was to appreciate and have more respect for nature.

I would advise anyone who loves nature and who wants to be of help to others to make the Khaya experience an experience never to be missed!
