Who is Khaya? Go Back

Khaya means “home” in Xhosa, the language spoken by the black population mostly in the South of South Africa.

Khaya is a business which is founded by Martijn van der Put (NL) and Ellen A. Fischat (SA). Both have had a wonderful experience doing their internship overseas. Ellen did her internship in Port Elizabeth, South-Africa and Martijn did his in Paramaribo, Suriname.

We know how difficult it can be to arrange everything yourself because of our own experiences. Khaya has a clear vision of what an internship overseas involves and how and where a student needs support.

We can make it easier for students to find a good and challenging internship placement because of our network of businesses and organizations in South Africa.
We also have a clear vision of how to meet the criteria of an internship because of our contacts with Higher Educational Institutes and Universities in your country of origin. Therefore we can find a diverse and interesting business or organization for you to do your internship.

Khaya is more than just an internship mediator. We help you with all the preparations, take care of you when you arrive in South Africa and we can advise you in finding a good and safe place to stay, for example in one of Khaya’s student houses.

When you stay in South Africa you have to experience the real South African culture and beautiful nature. In order to discover the most beautiful places, which you might not be able to find yourself, we will organize several different day excursions and/or weekends away every month.
Together with Khaya as a partner you will have the best chance of finding a challenging internship placement, a successful learning period and most important; a great life experience!
