Martijn
Martijn grew up in the Netherlands. He completed his Social Work degree in 1999 in Amsterdam, and did his 11-month internship in a Medical Educational Institution in Suriname in South America.
After completing his degree he started his own handy-man business. This experience created new challenges and soon after he moved up and became the director of a specialized cleaning company, successfully managing 14 full-time employees over a period of 3 years.
Due to his qualifications and his personal ambitions, this specific career was not what he wanted to pursue. In 2003 he made a career change and started working in Amsterdam for a child welfare organization called Spirit as a social worker.
Martijn’s desire to travel and his previous travelling experiences in Africa made the decision for the family (Ellen, Noah (1999) and Sophie (2002)) to immigrate to South Africa an easy one.
He absolutely enjoys living in South Africa. He especially loves driving his 4×4 on excursions with his family as well to discover the beautiful places that South Africa has to offer.
Martijn is the owner and founder of Khaya Volunteer Projects and part of the Internship South Africa Group. He also is involved in several social projects such as the Izizwe Projects in the townships of Port Elizabeth.
